We wondered how our gelato would measure up

So we entered the Royal Queensland Awards Ice Cream, Gelato & Sorbet Competition.

We weren’t looking for medals just to put on a wall. We wanted independent feedback on whether the flavours we were making stood up against some of the best in the industry.

The answer was rather encouraging.

Pear & Ginger

Gold, Class 6 — Any Other Flavour, and 2026 Champion Flavoured Ice Cream or Gelato of Show, awarded with a Trophy and Rosette.

The Champion is selected from gold medal winning exhibits in classes 4 to 10. Our pear and ginger, Enchanted Orchard, was judged the best flavoured gelato across those seven classes. It scored 19.00 out of 20, the equal-highest score we received.

Pear & Ginger captures something we love about making gelato: taking flavours people understand and putting them together in a way that makes them stop and think, “I need to try that.”

Judged on the vegan flavours too

We didn’t only enter the classics. Our vegan and fruit-based flavours were judged in their own classes, and they medalled as well — including a silver for The Green Queen’s Delight in the non-animal-milk class, and medals across our sorbets.

Awards are lovely. Empty cups are better.

The medals tell us we’re heading in the right direction.

What matters most is what happens when we hand the gelato across the counter.
